The late legendary Aretha Franklin is set to be honored with a private funeral service in Detroit on Friday, August 31.
The ceremony will apparently be viewable online and would feature performances from Ariana Grande, Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan, and others. Portions of the tribute will be broadcast on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, while Associated Press will host the live stream.
Aretha Franklin passed away on August 16 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 76.
“I met her a few times. We sang at the White House, and she was so sweet, and she was like so cute,” Ariana Grande told Jimmy Fallon during a recent interview. “I was like, ‘How are you a real person?’ It’s an honor to have met her, and we’re gonna celebrate her.”
According to Gwendolyn Quinn, a spokesperson for Franklin’s family, “Aretha was fond of [Grande].”
